Writing From Within

For the past ten years, I’ve had the privilege of managing a remarkable writing class led by the masterful writing teacher and mentor, Bernard Selling, with students in different time zones around the country. We met by conference call, which is far more intimate than it sounds.

Over the years students came and went, but my dear friend Jacquelina and I stayed with it, meeting every two weeks. In that entire time we barely missed a class. It wasn’t something you wanted to miss because the classes were so much fun and fulfilling. Why? Because Bernard is a brilliant and insightful teacher and the technique he created is life-changing. My writing was transformed and so was my confidence. I think Jacquelina would agree.

In fact, in the past if somebody asked me about writing, I would probably say I love to write. If you asked me today, I would say I love to write and I love to inspire others to write because now I have the tools to help others open up and elevate their writing. I’ve already worked with many students prior to joining our class, and I really enjoyed it.

Actually my next book, my first work of fiction, is about a writing teacher giving a weekend seminar. As I was writing about that seminar, I realized I can also teach it in real life. I certainly may at some point in time.

These days Bernard is reaching retirement and has essentially invited Jacquelina and I  to continue his legacy and teach Writing From Within. I look forward to starting a class someday soon.
